Welcome to Southsea Sub-Aqua Club's web site, the online home of one of the most active diving clubs on the South Coast.

Southsea Sub-Aqua Club's main aim is to provide facilities, opportunities and an environment that encourages people to go diving safely.  We are fully equipped with our own club house, scuba equipment, boat, compressors and a dive programme that has something for everyone all of which allows divers the opportunity to develop their skills and experience.  We are also keen to offer the opportunity for people to learn to dive, or just try the experience for the first time – A ‘Try Dive’ can be arranged for anyone interested in ‘taking the plunge’.
We are a branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), the largest dive club in the world and the governing body for British recreational scuba diving.  BSAC training is internationally recognised and tailored particularly to diving in UK waters. Whilst it is not obligatory to join BSAC but most members do as the benefits are convenient and inexpensive.  BSAC membership includes third party insurance which is a requirement for diving and training with the club.  For more information about the British Sub-Aqua club visit http://www.bsac.com/.

We are not a commercial organisation – simply a group of divers from all backgrounds who share a passion for scuba diving.  We run on a non-profit basis, no one gets paid and we are dependent on the volunteer efforts and good will of our membership.  Being one of the first BSAC branches we have an unrivalled history as a club which has contributed in many ways to diving and exploring our undersea world.

Within the club you'll find all manner of divers, from all levels of sport divers, re-breather and Trimix divers, through to our newest members learning to dive in the pool.   We also cater for all interests – marine conservation, wreck diving and wreck investigation/archaeology, underwater photography and other specialist activities.

The Club enjoys a rich and varied social calendar. Having our own Club House, with a well-stocked bar, allows us to hold social evenings at the Club. Events such as parties, talks, quizzes and charity events are regularly held throughout the year.

New Members Guide:

Hello and a warm welcome to Southsea Sub Aqua Club.  My name is Martin Davies and I am the Diving Officer for the club.  My role is to oversee all diving activities that the club does and to ensure that the dives are done in a safe and consistent manner in line with our governing body’s “Safe Diving Practices”. The British Sub Aqua Club has very high standards and we train long and hard to make us some of the best divers in the world. I am a big advocate of training and diving within the club environment, put simply it is the best way to enjoy your diving – with friends.

The club offers many facilities whether you are just starting out or a hardened diver of many years. The club has a structured dive schedule which has something for every diver in the club, you can choose how many dives you want to do and how much you want to participate within the club. The more you put in the more you get out; it’s a simple fact of life.

At Southsea Sub-Aqua Club you will meet a lot of likeminded people who are passionate and enthusiastic about going diving.  They come from all walks of life and some have years of diving experience others are just starting to find their fins.   I started diving in 1977 at the tender age of 14 and have never looked back since.   I have seen some spectacular sights and possibly have been where no man has ever gone before.  I love the thought of exploration in the seas and oceans of this world we live in.  Make the most of it “One life- dive it”!

Project Kraken Part 2 (23 Feb 12)

Last year Police officers from Hampshire Constabulary’s gave a talk at the Club on Project ‘Kraken’  (www.hampshire.police.uk/Internet/advice/kraken/). Divers from Southsea and other clubs heard how they can assist the Police in the fight against marine crime and the ever present risk of terrorism.  Whilst crime on the South Coast is relatively low the potential impact of terrorist activity to the region could be significant.  By reporting suspicious or odd behaviour or just simply something that looks out of place all water users can help reduce the threat of theft and major crime.  On 23 Feb, Officers will give a second talk to update us on the progress of their work combatting crime and terrorism along the South Coast. 

This talk will be open to anyone who wants to come along, but if you're not a Club member, please give Alison a call on 07740 873255 so we can make sure we've got enough chairs put out!  The bar will be open, of course, to make sure it's not a "dry old do".
